Calendar/Come Visit!

If you plan on visiting here are the times when I do not have to be teaching. This would be the easiest time to have visitors. I can still take my vacation anytime but I will have to work out getting other teachers to cover classes (not easy/I don't trust them) or I would have to make up classes sometimes.

Term I Sept 4- Dec 13
Dec 14- Jan 8 (25 days vacation)
Term II Jan 9- April 18
April 19- Mar 3 (25 days vacation)
Term III March 4- July 25
July 26- Sept 9 (46 days vacation)

Also: April 6-9 GHANA PARAGLIDING FESTIVAL!!! If you want to do this with me I am definitely going! I have seen the mountains and heard amazing things about the festival so 2012 and 2013 this is a good time to come!

Other things to take into consideration:

*The best time to visit Ghana is during the dry months from November to April

*The best time to visit the BEACH is October through April

*The best time for safari (Mole National Park) is January to March

  1. My suggestions - I would ditch a few things. Socks for instance, don't need em. Flats - you can wear Chacos for everything and they are classy. Thanks Ghana! Plus you can get really incredibly cute shoes here at the market. Very impressed. You won't need a sweater. During the harmattan up north it can get coldish at night, but you will have plenty of time at site before that happens to determine if you need to buy something here.
Buying clothes here is really fun, you get to dig stuff out of a pile. Never know what you will find. I've never paid over 3cds for an article of clothing.
You won't need a sleeping bag, too hot anyway.

I would suggest making a "site" box. A box full of stuff you want mailed to you so you can take it to site. You don't want to carry it with you to Ghana, because that's a pain. You will have help getting to your site - aka an extra pair of hands. So you can haul more stuff to your site. For example, the knife, pan (MUST), bike tool, books, ziplocs, duct tape, stuff like that - that's what you keep aside to be shipped over.

Also, if you take any medications that are still on patent - you can't get a generic version - bring a 2 year supply. Ask your doctor for lots of samples.

    1. Thanks for the great advice! I got a large flat rate box to fill with my "site things"... sadly large flat rate boxes are not very large :/ my pan doesn't fit. Good to know I don't need socks I haven't bought any yet...I am not really a sock person and I wear my vibrams for running.
